Thank you note to all the people
from Kalid Meky
As the last mourners settle in their village, or fly back to a home across the great waters and the last public tears are dry I thought it would be an appropriate time to send out my appreciation to my people.
First and foremost to the people of Eritrea. They came in droves to my Dads home and funeral. They scraped up their pennies for the opportunity to say thank you and goodbye. There are no statues or art work of him, buildings named after him; he left no estate, money, nor books. Just some irrefutable numbers and the gratitude of the “people he loved to serve.”
Secondly I would like to thank close family and friends. It was amazing, how those closest to us came with such support and tenderness. I am happy to discover the Eritrean love my Dad spoke of us is actually real. Like Nura Adem whose advise to pray was rewarded by a dollar that mysteriously appeared. Layla's prescribed path to recovery . Or Alazar’s single tear or Abdella Sifaf’s activity at the fervor on the net, my aunts Sophia’s meals and supportive words, my cousin Abdalla meky sudden maturity, Meliks assistant on helping my mom’s need to leave for the funeral, My uncle Mohammedberhan Meky’s hug on his return from Asmara, and Gen. Sebhat Efrem for his kind and humble treatments of my family.
Thirdly I would like to thank the Eritrean organization YPFDJ Chapter Of Oakland, Ca. Their support of me was healing. I received dozens of emails wishing me well. It was my medicine, when I woke up in the middle of the night sick with tears. Also I would like to thank the government and the president far a fine funeral service and for giving my father the opportunity to serve in such a high position.
On behalf of my family thank you Eritrea for your sympathy and specially your Love.
